Today is the Annunciation. In the Orthodox Church, it is the day we remember how everything began. Not just a simple story, but the moment when the salvation of humanity starts.
In a humble house in Nazareth, not in palaces, the Archangel Gabriel stands before a young girl. And he says to her: “Rejoice, full of grace… the Lord is with you.”
Mary is troubled. She does not understand immediately. And that matters. Because faith is not blind. It asks, it thinks, it seeks.
And then she hears something beyond human understanding: that she will give birth to the Son of God.
And here the greatest miracle takes place. Not only that God becomes man, but that He waits for the answer of a human being.
And the Virgin Mary says: “Behold the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”
One “yes.”
And through this “yes”… everything changes.
From that moment begins the journey that leads to Christmas, passes through the Cross, and reaches the Resurrection. The Annunciation is a beginning. It is joy. It is hope.
And during Lent, on this day, the Church makes an exception and allows fish. Because the joy of this moment is stronger than fasting.
God does not force. He does not impose Himself. He knocks on the door and waits.
And the question remains the same for everyone:
What will you answer?
