The long-awaited trial for the Tempe railway tragedy begins today at the Three-Member Court of Appeals for Felonies in Larissa, three years after the accident of February 28, 2023. The start of the trial marks the attempt to investigate responsibilities and deliver justice for the 57 victims, while the proceedings will take place in a specially configured 600-square-meter hall at the GAIOPOLIS conference center of the University of Thessaly, under strict security measures.
From early morning, victims’ relatives, defendants, legal representatives and citizens have gathered at the venue, in an atmosphere of intense emotion. The proceedings are expected to begin at 9:00 AM, with 36 defendants in the dock. At the same time, strong police forces have been deployed outside the venue, while crowds of people are gathering.
In statements to Parapolitika journalist Elisavet Stamopoulou, who is in Larissa, Pavlos Aslanidis expressed intense disbelief, characteristically stating that “there is no Greek justice.”
