The multinational mine warfare exercise “Ariadne 26” has been successfully completed. The exercise was conducted from March 2-13 in the broader maritime area of the Cretan Sea. As announced by the Hellenic Navy General Staff, this INVITEX-type exercise is organized annually by the Hellenic Navy to provide training in mine warfare operations, very shallow water mine countermeasures, Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) operations, and to enhance cooperation levels among participants within an allied framework.
Who participated in the exercise
The exercise included surface units from the frigate command, patrol vessel command, mine warfare command, a Hellenic Navy helicopter, personnel from the underwater demolitions command, Hellenic Air Force aircraft, a vessel from the Hellenic Coast Guard, as well as assets and personnel from the United States, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, France, Croatia, Romania, the NATO Mine Warfare Center of Excellence, and NATO STO CMRE (Science and Technology Organization Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation).
