Additional prosecution for gang activity at misdemeanor level has been filed against the two individuals who were allegedly with the 20-year-old who lost his life during the fatal incident last Thursday night in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki. Among these two defendants is a 19-year-old who appeared earlier today, accompanied by a lawyer, before the First Regular Investigator of Thessaloniki, who is handling the case file for the murder of the 20-year-old.
Thessaloniki: 19-year-old given deadline to testify next Wednesday
The 19-year-old, according to his attorney, was given a deadline to testify next Wednesday and remains in custody until then. The second individual has not yet been located. The prosecutor had already filed charges at misdemeanor level against both for aggravated dangerous bodily harm and possession of objects that can cause bodily harm, jointly and with the aggravating provisions of the Sports Law. It should be noted that the 23-year-old defendant, accused as the perpetrator of the murder, is being prosecuted for intentional homicide, illegal weapon possession and use, while he remains in custody until he testifies on Tuesday before the investigator.
According to ertnews.gr, the 19-year-old had been identified by authorities and declared himself available to surrender to judicial authorities. His lawyer informed the regular investigator handling the case file accordingly, and she requested that the young man be summoned. The 19-year-old, who is a conscript, is estimated to have been informed yesterday that he was wanted when he heard about the criminal prosecutions filed against the two friends of the 20-year-old jointly by the prosecutor and informed his lawyer of his intention.
Today’s funeral of the 20-year-old
It is noted that relatives and friends said their final goodbye today, Sunday, to the 20-year-old who was murdered in the incident in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki. The young man, who received two stab wounds, was buried at 13:00 at the Holy Church of Saint Basil in Sykeon, while authorities continue to search for persons involved in the case.
Thessaloniki: 23-year-old to testify on Tuesday
Meanwhile, the 23-year-old who surrendered to the department regarding the incident has been remanded in custody and will testify on Tuesday, having received a deadline. He faces charges of intentional homicide and illegal weapon possession and use (the first being a felony, the other two misdemeanors). For the two being sought, the charges are at misdemeanor level and concern acts of aggravated dangerous bodily harm and possession of objects that can cause bodily harm. At the same time, the version that the murder is connected to the case of self-proclaimed “vigilante pedophile punishers” appears to have been ruled out.
What the 23-year-old told authorities about the murder
Regarding the 23-year-old who surrendered, yesterday he insisted on the version that the 20-year-old and his friends had set an ambush to beat him. However, although he initially said that the knife with which he fatally wounded the 20-year-old was not his, he eventually changed his stance, ultimately claiming he had it for protection.
With his head bowed and without uttering a word, the 23-year-old perpetrator of the murder of the 20-year-old in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, was led to the Court Buildings. The young man, who voluntarily surrendered to authorities, confessed to stabbing the victim twice, claiming however that he was acting in self-defense.
The forensic examination findings
The forensic examination findings reveal the brutality of the attack and the tragic outcome for the 20-year-old. According to the data, the victim lost approximately two liters of blood from the two wounds he sustained. The first blow was located at the level of the ribs, while the second, which proved to be fatal, was directly to the heart, leading to the young man’s death.
After the prosecutor filed charges for intentional homicide, illegal weapon carrying and use, the perpetrator was given a deadline to testify next Tuesday.
The video evidence of the murder and investigations
The murder, committed Thursday night in Kalamaria, has been captured in video evidence that is being analyzed frame by frame by police. In the footage, the 20-year-old can be seen walking with apparent difficulty after receiving the blows before collapsing next to a garbage bin, while at another point in the material two friends of the victim can be distinguished. Authorities continue examining testimonies and evidence to clarify the motive for the attack.
Regarding the horrific incident, the uncle of the 23-year-old perpetrator spoke to Mega, declaring his inability to justify his nephew’s act: “When a young child is lost, it is our child, it is our own child, not someone else’s child. And I don’t want to justify anything. The act is unjustifiable as a result.”
