Mother fails to appear in court
The defendant did not appear before the Single-Member Criminal Court and was not represented by any lawyer. In contrast, her former partner filed a civil action and has now assumed temporary custody of the child. “The mother was charged because, although she had enrolled the child in the special elementary school of Lamia for the current school year 2025-2026 last September and had custody, she failed to ensure the child attended classes,” according to the father’s lawyer, Kostas Baroutas.
How the case reached the courts
“The court found her guilty of the offense of neglecting her child’s school attendance, sentencing her to 12 months imprisonment with a three-year suspension, a monetary penalty of 200 euros, and court costs. The case reached the courtroom after a formal document sent to the Public Prosecutor’s Office by the administration of the special school of Lamia,” he added.
