Shock has gripped the local community of Achaea following the arrest of an 82-year-old man for distributing child pornography online by the Cybercrime Division of the Greek Police, with charges filed through summary proceedings. The case was uncovered following information transmitted to Greek authorities via the international organization NCMEC (National Center for Missing and Exploited Children) in the United States, regarding an internet user who had uploaded material of sexual abuse of minors online. After thorough digital and police investigation, officers managed to identify the user and locate his residence in the Achaea region.

On Friday morning, March 6, 2026, a search was conducted at the 82-year-old’s house, in the presence of a judicial official, by officers from the Cybercrime Division with assistance from officers of the Crime Investigation Sub-Directorate of Patras.
During the search, one mobile phone, one external and two internal computer hard drives were confiscated. On-site digital examination of the evidence confirmed the 82-year-old’s involvement in the case, while a large volume of photographs and videos of sexual abuse of children under 12 years of age was discovered.
Particularly shocking is the finding that, according to the police investigation, among the files were videos and photographs that he appears to have created himself, depicting his grandchildren in nude or semi-nude poses, a fact that intensifies concern about the seriousness and extent of the case.
The digital evidence will be sent to the Criminological Research Directorate for further laboratory analysis to determine the full scope of the illegal activity. The 82-year-old was arrested and brought before the competent prosecutorial authority.
