Two search and rescue operations for migrants were carried out in recent hours in the sea area south of Crete, coordinated by the Unified Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED).
Crete: Rescue of 94 foreigners near Kaloi Limenes
In the first operation, conducted at dawn, 94 foreigners were located and rescued from a boat approximately 14 nautical miles southwest of Kaloi Limenes. The rescue involved a Coast Guard vessel, while assistance was provided by a Liberian-flagged tanker. The operation also utilized an unmanned aircraft (drone) from Frontex forces. The rescued individuals were safely transported to the port of Agia Galini.
Detection of two boats with over 100 migrants south of Gavdos
In a second operation yesterday afternoon, a total of 35 and approximately 68 migrants were located and rescued from two boats in the sea area south of Gavdos. The operation involved a rescue vessel, a Coast Guard boat, a Frontex aircraft, and three passing ships.
The migrants were transported by Coast Guard vessel to the port of Chora Sfakion.
