For a second day, police investigations continue at the central offices of OPEKEPE in Athens, which began yesterday, Wednesday 9/07, following orders for a preliminary examination by the supervising prosecutor of the Organized Crime Unit, Dimitris Gkyzis. The investigation concerns all subsidies granted during the period from 2019-2024, primarily to determine whether criminal offenses at the level of felonies or misdemeanors arise regarding the granting of subsidies.

In this context, a team from the Economic Police, together with a special unit from the Digital Evidence Department of the Criminological Research Directorate, are copying all electronic files from OPEKEPE’s database, a particularly time-consuming process, as police could not confiscate the entire system because employees would not be able to work.
OPEKEPE premises under 24-hour guard
Simultaneously, following the start of the police investigation and until the completion of the copying process, the OPEKEPE premises are guarded on a 24-hour basis to ensure that there will be no deletion or alteration of any data.
Subsequently, all material will be examined by the Economic Police and checks will be conducted on those who appear as beneficiaries and received large subsidies, in order to determine which were obtained legally, or whether they have committed fraud, forgery and other crimes.
