Over 100 commemorative gatherings across Greece and abroad will take place today, Saturday 28/2, marking three years since the Tempi tragedy.
Strikes, marches and rallies for Tempi are “paralyzing” the country, as beyond the major march at Syntagma Square and central Thessaloniki, gatherings will be held by associations, citizens and students in every corner of Greece. Meanwhile, schedule modifications will apply to public transport services, with changes to metro, tram and bus routes due to the “black” anniversary.
In Athens and Thessaloniki, gatherings are scheduled for 12:00. Centered at Syntagma at noon, hundreds of thousands of citizens are expected to honor the memory of the 57 victims in mass demonstrations, while pre-gatherings will take place an hour earlier at Omonia and Propylaea. In parallel, Greeks of the diaspora are organizing memorial events in 25 cities abroad.

Enhanced security measures for Tempi commemorations: 5,000 police officers, drones and water cannons
In central Athens, and specifically at Syntagma Square, the police plan is in full development. More than 5,000 police officers are on duty, including members of the DRASI unit, DIAS, State Security and riot police squads.
Preventive checks will be conducted from early morning, while random bag searches will be performed on individuals heading to Syntagma. Meanwhile, drones will transmit footage to the Operations Center of the General Police Directorate of Attica, ensuring complete oversight of the situation. If deemed necessary and with prosecutorial order, immediate arrests will follow. In case of incidents, water cannon vehicles are planned to be used, positioned at key points around Parliament, while riot police vans will also be deployed.
According to the latest traffic police update, emergency traffic regulations will be implemented from Saturday morning in the wider area of central Athens.
As noted in the relevant police announcement, the regulations will be implemented gradually and according to prevailing conditions, while drivers are called upon for better service and to avoid additional traffic problems by avoiding passage and parking of their vehicles in the road network of wider central Athens and following the instructions of traffic regulators.
