The lawyer representing the mother of Irini Mourtzoukou, Sofia Polyzogopoulou, launched accusations against the Forensic Medical Service of Patras, which, as she stated, wrongly attributed the deaths to pathological causes, speaking on the CONNECTIONS show on ERTNews.
It is recalled that after the defendant’s confession that she murdered three of the five children connected to her name, as well as her own sister in 2014, the entire Forensic Medical Service of Patras was suspended until further notice by decision of Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis, with the lawyer emphasizing that “there are inconceivable omissions and errors by the forensic medical service. These reports are being refuted and it is proven that these were not pathological causes,” the lawyer stressed.
At the same time, as she argued, her client, Irini Mourtzoukou’s mother, had expressed suspicions and certainty that the children had been murdered, and had cooperated with the authorities: “This woman after the death of little Panagiotis was at the disposal of the authorities. She had provided evidence and will do so during the investigation phase. She has lost a child and two grandchildren and we will declare our support for the prosecution against her daughter.”
Mourtzoukou’s mother’s lawyer: “The other children would not have been lost if it had been established that Irini’s sister’s death was not pathological”
When asked by journalists whether there was a way to prevent the deaths earlier, Ms. Polyzogopoulou replied: “If it had been established in 2014 that Irini’s sister’s death was not pathological but murder, the remaining children would not have been lost. The massive errors and omissions weigh on the forensic experts and the erroneous preliminary investigation.”
The defendant’s mother, Mrs. Popi, is reported to be in a very poor psychological state, while she intends to exercise all her legal rights. As her lawyer stated, she is not accused of anything, nor is she criminally involved in the case, while she clarified that they will declare support for the prosecution.
