Dionysis Georgiadis, father of Gerasimos, the sole survivor from the first car of the fatal train in the Tempe tragedy, delivers a heartbreaking message. “I wish this Saturday that everyone’s prayer and thoughts become Gerasimos’ voice,” he states in his message ahead of the rallies being organized across Greece for the 3rd anniversary of the tragedy.
Specifically, in his statement, which was sent to the media by his lawyer Loukas Apostolidis, Mr. Georgiadis states: “Gerasimos experiences and endures his own Calvary. For three years his heart beats strongly. A daily Calvary both for this wonderful heroic young man, and for our entire family, who tries in every possible way to remain upright, strong and worthy of the difficulties and the unspeakable, endless, merciless pain, (physical and psychological). As the lawyer of Gerasimos’ father, I share with you his statement, in view of the 3rd sad anniversary.
“The Tempe tragedy admonishes us”
Three years have passed. The wound remains open and bleeding. The Tempe tragedy admonishes us. Every human life has no exchange value. The pain has no end.
For three whole years Gerasimos, in an unequal battle, fights for his life. Three whole martyric years unfold, an endless journey to hospitals in Greece, Europe and America…with only the hope for another miracle from the Virgin Mary as company.
“It is terribly difficult for someone to comprehend his struggle”
A brave man who fought at every moment of his life and continues to do so now. It is terribly difficult for someone to comprehend his struggle and impossible to describe it.
The entire medical and nursing staff is at his bedside day and night.
I WISH THIS SATURDAY THAT EVERYONE’S PRAYER AND THOUGHTS BECOME GERASIMOS’ VOICE….
AND WHO KNOWS…..
PERHAPS IT WILL BE HEARD EVEN THERE….IN HIS LONELY HOSPITAL BED…..
PERHAPS THE SOUND, THE VOICE AND THE PRAYER OF THE PEOPLE WILL ILLUMINATE GERASIMOS’ DARKNESS AND BREAK HIS TORTUROUS SILENCE…
PERHAPS PERHAPS PERHAPS……
Good Lent
and may the Lord’s Resurrection
bring Gerasimos’ Resurrection too
Dionysios Georg. Georgiadis”.
