Optimism prevails for the health condition of the five-month-old baby hospitalized with meningitis in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the University General Hospital of Patras, in Rio Achaia. The baby’s condition has stabilized, with doctors expressing cautious optimism about the child’s health outcome.
The five-month-old infant is being treated in the isolation ward of the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the hospital due to aggressive meningococcal sepsis and meningitis. A brain MRI will be performed and identification of the serotype from the meningitis reference center in Athens is awaited. The baby will remain in the intensive care unit, showing encouraging signs regarding their health progress.
Hospitalization of 5-month-old baby due to meningitis: The ICU transfer
The transfer operation was set up in the early morning hours of Sunday at Zakynthos Hospital, when the infant presented serious symptoms that concerned the doctors.
The transfer to the Pediatric ICU in Rio was deemed necessary, where there are appropriate facilities and specialized staff to handle such serious cases.
The baby is being monitored by the hospital’s specialized medical staff.
