Authorities continue their search for the arrest of a 64-year-old man of Albanian origin, following allegations of attempted rape against a 25-year-old woman with disabilities inside her home in Athens, with the alleged perpetrator remaining at large. The mother of the 25-year-old, Katerina Bekiari, has described the dramatic moments she experienced when, returning home, she found the man on top of her daughter. As she reported, she grabbed a large frying pan and hit him on the head, trying to remove him and protect her child. The forensic medical examination, according to her, showed that there was no abuse, a fact that—as she said—she did not expect. According to information, this was a person familiar to the family, as he helped the mother with shopping.

Security camera footage broadcast on MEGA shows the 64-year-old unlocking the front door of the apartment with keys and entering the space, locking behind him. The footage also captures the struggle with the mother, with both falling to the floor, the man hitting her and her fighting back.
“I would like to first thank ‘Cry of the Disabled’ who were with me from morning until midnight at Thriasio Hospital, next to me and my children. It’s an organization for abuse, for rapes, for children with autism and various such issues. I went for a few seconds to the pharmacy to get a pair of glasses basically, these ones I’m wearing. The little one had broken them and I said: ‘Maritsa sit properly, watch your little sister and I’ll be back.’ I leave the door open because as a mother for 25 years I know what my child is like, better than doctors and anyone else, and I go, I get the glasses,” the mother initially said, speaking to MEGA.
“The main entrance of the house was open. Because I also had the air conditioning on to get some oxygen in all night, we had just woken up. Coming back I hear a ‘click’ on my phone, I think ‘it must be because I’m getting signal as I’m about to reach home.’ As soon as I put the key in, I find the door closed, I find an obstacle, I push, it wasn’t his key, I open and I see inside the Albanian man, who was above suspicion in the neighborhood, he did favors for everyone, elderly people and others, as well as for me who has no one here at home to bring me things which I paid him for at the end of every month when OPEKA paid us, and I see him with his genitals exposed. He did this for everyone in the area. That’s why I want photos to come out because he might have done this to someone else, let’s not hide these things kids,” she continued.
“I saw him on top of my child on the bed, with his genitals out. The ‘smart’ one forgot that I have a closed circuit camera system inside my house with sound, and it had recorded everything. He runs into the bathroom, trying to get dressed, I was swearing uncontrollably. I went outside, grabbed a pan and brought it to his head, I slipped on one foot because I have a knee problem, there he found an opportunity and hit me. The child came at me, the girl, because she saw all this scene and got scared since she has autism – and these children regress when they see these things, no matter how much therapy they’ve had, they go back – and he threw punches at her eye. He started swearing at me, with unspeakable phrases and left the apartment building which everyone heard. And as recorded everywhere. A neighbor of the 64-year-old reported to the television station: “The girl, the daughter came and told me that he attempted to rape her. I saw him one day bringing a disabled little girl, he brought her with a wheelchair and I tell him ‘hey (…) where are you taking the girl.’ He lived here then, here in this house, they hadn’t left yet and he tells me ‘I’m going to bathe her because they’ve cut off their water.’ And he really took her up with the wheelchair, it made an impression on me.”

According to MEGA, this particular man is a father of four children and one of his daughters has contacted Mrs. Katerina, has supported her, told her that she is with her and that she too is looking for her father. In fact, some information suggests that he had tried to sexually abuse her as well in the past and a similar incident had been created again in the apartment building.
Regarding this information, the mother of the 25-year-old said: “When his daughter was small, he attempted to sexually abuse her and the girl hit him, left home. And now the girl is going legally and told me that she will support me legally on this matter. The statute of limitations for immediate prosecution expires and they still haven’t found him.”
