Investigations are in full progress regarding the fatal shipwreck that occurred in the early hours of Saturday in the sea area south of Heraklion province, Crete. According to information from ekriti.gr, the Coast Guard has proceeded with the identification of the body found in the maritime zone south of Kali Limenes.

The body belongs to a 28-year-old foreign national from Sudan, who was transported to the University General Hospital of Heraklion, where an autopsy will be conducted.

It is recalled that a total of four bodies have been recovered from the shipwreck, while 20 people were rescued, including four minors. According to testimonies, approximately 50 people were aboard the boat that had departed from Tobruk, Libya, with the vessel capsizing due to strong waves.
Meanwhile, the Heraklion Prosecutor has filed felony charges against two young men, aged 25 and 19, who are alleged to be smugglers. The two defendants were brought before the investigating magistrate, from whom they requested and received a deadline to testify on Wednesday.
