The weather is expected to be favorable for Clean Monday kite flying, as the bad weather subsides after heavy rainfall. Specifically, the storm will continue to affect several areas of the country tomorrow, Sunday (22.02), however, significant improvement is expected for Clean Monday.
Both Theodoros Kolydas and Georgios Tsatrafyllias agree that only in Crete will the weather present problems on Clean Monday, while the rest of Greece will enjoy clear skies. Additionally, both meteorologists note that the weather will remain favorable throughout the country for approximately one week.
Weather: Kolydas’ forecast for Clean Monday
“To avoid repetition, the weather outlook for the coming days is clearly improved without significant changes. On Clean Monday, only Crete will experience weak local rainfall, while the rest of the country will enjoy generally clear weather with few temporary clouds over eastern Central Greece, Evia, the Sporades, and the Cyclades. Winds will blow from northern directions at 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally 6 to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean, while temperatures will show a slight rise, mainly in western and northern regions.
On Tuesday, weather will remain generally clear with few clouds in western and southern areas. From late afternoon, cloud cover will increase in Macedonia and Thrace, with possible local rainfall mainly in Thrace during the night. Winds will shift to westerly 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally 6 Beaufort in southern areas, while temperatures will show a further slight increase.
On Wednesday, Macedonia and Thrace will have intermittent increased cloud cover with few local showers, while the rest of the country will maintain generally clear weather with limited clouds. Winds in the northern Aegean will blow from eastern directions at 4 to 6 Beaufort, and in other areas westerly-northwesterly 3 to 5 Beaufort, locally 6 Beaufort in the south. Temperatures will show a slight drop in eastern regions.
From mid-week for a period of six to seven days, everything indicates that weather will continue without rain throughout the country. The atmosphere will be drier, with northerly winds clearing the horizon and limiting humidity. This is a period that favors outdoor work, travel, and countryside activities. After the previous rainfall, it seems the time has come to… get out and about.”
Tsatrafyllias’ forecast
For his part, Georgios Tsatrafyllias wrote characteristically: “With weather as an ally for carnival parades and Clean Monday celebrations… Good morning! In the eastern islands and Dodecanese, the bad weather will persist for a few more hours before gradually weakening. Weather conditions will then improve. Specifically…
Carnival Sunday: Improved weather with local rainfall in Evia, Cyclades, Crete, and Peloponnese. Gradually, phenomena will be limited to Crete.
Clean Monday: Generally clear with light rain in Crete.
P.S.: For at least a week we will enjoy plenty of sunshine, with northerly winds keeping the atmosphere clear.
Happy Lent!”
