A major search and rescue operation for migrants is currently underway in the maritime area south of Crete.
The Coast Guard operation is taking place approximately 15 nautical miles south of Kali Limenes. According to initial reports, a Panama-flagged container ship spotted shipwreck survivors in the sea and rescued 20 people, immediately proceeding with their rescue.
As reported by ekriti, four additional passing vessels that rushed to assist are participating in the search efforts, along with a Frontex vessel whose crew recovered three bodies. The area is experiencing southern winds of force 5 Beaufort, while the search continues under difficult conditions.
