The Greek Police, in view of the Carnival celebration and Clean Monday, is implementing increased traffic safety measures across the country’s entire road network, from Friday (20/2) to Monday (23/2), aiming to ensure citizens’ safe movement and prevent traffic accidents. The plan is implemented based on the Greek Police Headquarters’ strategic plan and provides for full deployment of Traffic Services, including:
– increased police presence and enhanced patrolling of road network points where traffic accidents frequently occur,
– increased traffic measures at entrances and exits of major urban centers where heavy vehicle traffic is observed,
– enhanced traffic measures in areas with massive passenger movement (airports, ports, stations, etc.),
– deployment of measures and special actions within cities, as well as at points where increased road user activity is observed due to festive events,
– timely ensuring cooperation and immediate communication with all relevant Bodies and Services around the clock, for immediate response and resolution of any problems that may arise, and
– informing citizens through the Corps’ competent communication Services, whenever widespread public information about potential traffic and other problems becomes necessary.
Additionally, through this planning, particular emphasis is placed on forming teams for special traffic control checks, at alternating points of the road network, focusing, among others, on documenting dangerous violations, as well as violations that according to statistical data are responsible for causing serious traffic accidents, such as:
– driving under the influence of alcohol,
– excessive speed,
– mobile phone use while driving,
– not using protective helmets and seat belts,
– improper overtaking and crossing double dividing lines, etc.,
– not using special restraint and protection devices, such as car seats, seat belts, etc., when transporting children in vehicles,
– driving vehicles by minors and individuals without a driver’s license,
– reckless driving for show-off purposes,
– circulation of vehicles that have not undergone regular or extraordinary technical inspection within the specified deadline,
– worn tires, and
– improper vehicle movement in the Emergency Lane.
Greek police on increased operational readiness due to Clean Monday exodus
Throughout the implementation of these measures, both personnel and equipment of the Greek Police will be on increased operational readiness, primarily the Traffic Policing Services. Specifically, patrol cars, motorcycles and conventional vehicles will be deployed, with appropriate personnel and equipment for effective policing of the country’s road network.
It should be noted that during the holiday period, restrictions on the movement of trucks with maximum permissible weight exceeding 3.5 tons will be in effect.
On the occasion of the upcoming holiday period, the Greek Police once again reminds all drivers and road network users that road safety is everyone’s responsibility.
