Information that internationally renowned Hollywood star Brad Pitt has arrived on Hydra for the filming of “The Riders,” where he plays the lead role, has been made public by the mayor of the Saronic Gulf island, Giorgos Koukoudakis. Describing with enthusiasm what is unfolding on the island, he spoke to ERT about a tourist season that has started earlier than expected, which brings profits to the local community. Regarding the team that has arrived on the island, he pointed out that he can already see specialized equipment, vehicles, and preparations with the island ready to welcome Hollywood-style productions.
Hydra: The fairytale setting before Brad Pitt’s arrival
The setting may be cinematic, but the sense of authenticity is impressive. As narrated to parapolitika.gr by Hydra resident, Spilios Spiliotis, the recreation accurately references the old agency that operated back then at the pier in a small room exactly where ships used to dock.
“I still remember the voice of the agent, Tsanou Ilias, shouting ‘Flying Dolphin electronic…’, an expression that seemed almost space-age to us then, because the ships were considered very fast and ‘electronic’ for that era,” says Mr. Spiliotis. As he describes, “this is an excellent recreation of that setting, created for the needs of the film production being shot in Hydra. It’s a faithful depiction of an era when the port had its own, distinctive tourist rhythm.”
In the photographs secured by parapolitika.gr, an exceptionally detailed recreation of that setting can be seen: the ticket agency has been “set up” almost exactly as it was then. For the island’s longtime residents, the cinematic set is not just a decoration, but a living memory that returns – this time in front of Hollywood cameras.
