Greek police: How the organization operated
Specifically, the accused made phone calls to unsuspecting citizens and by presenting false events as true, using fake identity details to deceive them, they impersonated employees of the Public Power Corporation (PPC) and the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator (HEDNO). Under the pretext of electrical faults, power leaks, and the possibility of electrocution, they convinced their victims to remove money and jewelry from their homes. Subsequently, their accomplices would arrive using different vehicles each time to collect the valuables.
According to the investigation, the criminal group committed a total of 7 fraud cases and 3 attempted fraud cases from late January 2026 to mid-February of the same year, in the wider area of Kalamata and in areas of Attica.
During a coordinated police operation conducted in the early morning hours of February 18, 2026, in Kalamata and Tripoli, with the assistance of officers from the Crime Detection and Investigation Department of Tripoli and the 1st Crime Prevention and Suppression Team (O.P.K.E.) of Messinia, a 22-year-old Greek national was arrested.
