The decision to install portable cameras on public transportation vehicles in Athens has been published in the Government Gazette, along with the decision to install cameras on six roads in the capital. According to the official announcement, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport approved the installation and operational deployment of portable optical monitoring sensors (cameras) to record traffic violations.
According to the same decision reported by iefimerida, warning signs will be placed on vehicles equipped with cameras belonging to OSY SA (Athens Urban Transport Organization). As stated, cameras will be installed initially on 10 OSY SA buses.
In a separate decision also published in the Government Gazette, the installation and operational deployment of fixed optical monitoring sensors (cameras) for recording traffic violations was approved, along with the placement of warning signs as required by paragraph 4 of article 107 of the Traffic Code, under the responsibility of the Ministry of Digital Governance.
The cameras will be installed at the following locations:
1) On Syngrou Avenue descent, at the height of Skra Street (on the VMS with integrated radar for spot speed monitoring, helmet violations, seatbelt violations, and mobile phone use)
2) On Syngrou Avenue ascent at the height of Thyateiron Street (Average Speed Section Control – records speed violations).
3) On Syngrou Avenue ascent at the height of Prinis Street (with Average Speed Section Control, records speed violations).
4) On Mesogeion-Chalandriou Avenue (records red light violations, targets vehicles from behind as the camera must see the traffic light).
5) On Vouliagmenis-Tinos Avenue (records red light violations, targets vehicles from behind as the camera must see the traffic light).
6) On Amalias Avenue, on the wide sidewalk in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (records red light violations, helmet violations, seatbelt violations, and mobile phone use).
The validity of this decision will begin from the installation of the warning signs as specified in paragraph 4 of article 107 of the Traffic Code.
