As part of the main investigation into the circumstances of the Chios shipwreck and the involvement of a Coast Guard patrol vessel, the inflatable boat carrying migrants during the recent tragedy will be raised by order of the Chios Investigator. The order was issued following a request from the two lawyers representing the Moroccan suspected trafficker, Alexis Georgoulis and Dimitris Choulis, who requested further investigation of the vessel to determine crucial details about the course and circumstances of the incident, according to politischios.gr.
Chios tragedy: How the vessel recovery will be conducted
According to the Coast Guard, it is a speedboat approximately eight meters long with a powerful engine. On the night of the tragedy, 39 foreign nationals were aboard, 15 of whom lost their lives, an event that shocked the local community and opened investigations on multiple levels.
The recovery will be carried out by Coast Guard divers, followed by an inspection in the presence of relevant authorities and technical advisors, aiming to check for damage, mechanical failures, or other elements that could shed light on the causes of the shipwreck and the sequence of events.
