Earlier today, Irini Mourtzoukou departed under police escort from the courts of the former Evelpidon school after first being taken to the Prosecutor of Penal Execution where she remained for a short time. “I haven’t seen the case file yet, I will study it and answer your questions. My client declares her innocence,” stated her lawyer, Nikos Alexandris.

Irini Mourtzoukou was taken to the courts of the former Evelpidon school for the execution of the arrest warrant. As shown in the photographs, the 25-year-old was transferred wearing a bulletproof vest and handcuffs, accompanied by police officers.

At the same time, exclusive video footage obtained by parapolitika.gr from the moment of her arrest comes to light. The arrested woman is seen being led from the central Athens hotel where she was arrested by two law enforcement officers in a white car, to be taken to GADA where she is being held.

It should be noted that, as reported by Spyros Darsinou’s coverage for parapolitika.gr, the first chapter of the sensational serial, the famous thriller of Amaliada, came to an end shortly before Monday afternoon (7/7). The Homicide Department officers, having a complete picture of Irini Mourtzoukou’s movements, proceeded to arrest her at an Attica hotel where she had been staying in recent days. The 25-year-old woman had completed her meeting with her defense attorney, Nikos Alexandris, and minutes later she was handcuffed.

Irini Mourtzoukou: “She will seek to prove her innocence”
The distinguished lawyer, due to circumstances, was forced to rush to GADA shortly after 9:30 PM to visit his client. “Despite expecting it day by day, she is not in the best possible psychological state. She claims, however, that she is innocent and will seek to prove it before Justice,” Nikos Alexandris told parapolitika.gr.
From GADA to Patras Court House for Irini Mourtzoukou
The 25-year-old Irini, a figure who occupied public opinion and television airwaves for months, spent the night on the 11th floor of GADA, in the temporary detention facility located near the Homicide Department. Now a second chapter opens, as the case will be transferred to investigative offices and eventually, pending the judicial council’s decision, to courtrooms. Irini Mourtzoukou is charged, according to police and judicial authorities, with serial homicide with intent, completed and attempted, continuous and non-continuous. The arrest warrant was issued by the Achaia Investigation Department.
The 25-year-old is expected to travel there today (8/7), after first making a stop at Evelpidon and the prosecutor of penal execution. After sealing the necessary documents, her transfer to Patras courthouse is expected, where charges will be formally announced by the prosecutor there. It is estimated that the young woman will be given time to testify at the end of the week, possibly next Saturday.
What led to Irini Mourtzoukou’s arrest
According to emerging information, judicial authorities are calling on Irini Mourtzoukou to testify regarding the murder of her two children in June 2022 and October 2023. Additionally, the 25-year-old is called to testify regarding the murder of her friend Katerina’s child (in February 2021). It is noted that so far no involvement of 25-year-old Irini Mourtzoukou has emerged in the death of little Panagiotis in August 2024, nor in the death of her little sister in 2014. The case file concerning little Panagiotis is estimated to be completed by late summer. Meanwhile, authorities attribute to the 25-year-old the attempted murder of an adult friend.
The arrest was expected, based on findings from expert opinions of four specialist scientists appointed by the Homicide Department within the framework of investigating three different preliminary investigations, as had been highlighted and developed by the print edition of PARAPOLITIKA since June 28. The expert opinions left open the possibility of asphyxiation death in at least three of the five investigated cases and, combined with the multitude of testimonies collected by the Homicide Department in western and northern Peloponnese, the warrant was inevitable. It is noted that the case file was forwarded to competent judicial authorities on July 1st.
The case timeline
Irini Mourtzoukou was found to be the common denominator in the deaths of five infants from 2014 to 2024. The “coincidence” of the now-accused’s presence in all cases was enough to arouse authorities’ suspicions.
Simultaneous repeated television appearances by both herself and relatives and friends created new suspicions and questions regarding the 25-year-old’s guilt or innocence, leaving unanswered the basic question of why two investigations into sudden and unexplained infant deaths – in Patras and Amaliada – have not been correlated. The narrative peaked when Mourtzoukou’s own mother stated that she considers her daughter responsible for the babies’ deaths.
In detail, the events occurred chronologically as follows:
• On February 6, 2014, in Argos, Irini’s one-and-a-half-year-old sister dies. The cause of death is respiratory infection and interstitial pneumonitis.
• On February 4, 2021, in Achaia, Irini babysits her friend’s 6-month-old baby while the mother, Katerina, is away. The forensic investigation showed interstitial pneumonitis and the baby also had epileptic episodes.
• On June 19, 2022, in Achaia, Irini is caring for her 19-day-old baby at home. The baby dies. The forensic investigation concludes that the cause of death was interstitial pneumonitis and genetic testing comes back clear.
• On October 17, 2023, at Agia Sophia Children’s Hospital, her 2-month-old baby girl dies. Hospital cause of death: cardiac arrest. The forensic examiner finds: epileptic seizures, strong pharmaceutical treatment, death attributed to epileptic seizures. Further genetic testing was recommended.
• On August 5, 2024, in Amaliada, Irini is at the house when 15-month-old Panagiotis, son of her friend Kalliopi, shows strange symptoms according to descriptions by Irini and the child’s mother. Irini and the baby’s mother say the child died at the hospital. However, doctors emphasize they received the baby already dead.
