The heat wave that has been sweeping the country since yesterday continues its relentless advance, with Attica being among the regions recording the highest temperatures. This fact is confirmed by the thermal camera of the Athens municipality, which recorded extremely high temperatures on Tuesday morning (8/7).
Athens “on fire”: Thermal camera records 100°C on building rooftops and 70°C on pavement
Specifically, temperatures reached up to 100 degrees Celsius on building rooftops and vehicles, while on the pavement, the thermometer showed up to 70 degrees Celsius! At the same time, it’s observed that some temperatures remain steady at 25-30 degrees in the city’s green spaces, such as on Mount Lycabettus.
As the head of the Municipal Police communications office told SKAI: “Prevention is needed, even the small green patches of the city must be protected. Prevention saves lives.”
The ground forces of the municipal police are on standby, including patrol cars, motorcycles, and bicycles, guarding key points to ensure immediate intervention in case of fire outbreak.
