As part of the brain drain phenomenon, but possibly not only for that reason, the son of the 56-year-old yoga teacher left for the Netherlands 10 years ago. However, the arsons committed by his mother, who is currently in the psychiatric ward of Korydallos prison, cannot fail to upset him. In statements on the show “Truths with Zina” on Star TV, the man lashed out at the state, which, as he emphasized, “failed to protect her as a patient and now treats her as an offender.” The son of the 56-year-old woman, who has burned five cars – three within 12 days from January 17 to 29 – stressed that he communicates with his mother through messages, but doesn’t see her when he visits Greece. He also commented that the issue with her mental condition – he mentioned “persecution mania” – became apparent 10 years ago, although he underlined that she had shown signs earlier.
Son of 56-year-old yoga teacher: “I don’t have a magic wand”
His mother’s condition left the child in a dead end, as he stressed that “it takes 3,000 to 4,000 euros per month for admission to a psychiatric clinic.” He also commented, “I wish I had a magic wand to help her, but it requires infrastructure, doctors and monitoring.” Specifically, he said: “I’m saddened, I love her… I just can’t help her personally because the problem is systemic. I wish I had a magic wand to help her, but it requires infrastructure, doctors and monitoring. She could be admitted to a private psychiatric hospital, but it’s very expensive, it’s 3,000-4,000 per month. Nobody can find that much money each month to pay.”
He also said that “she wasn’t taking her medication, there was no way for her to take her medication. They don’t keep them in psychiatric clinics. They keep them for three to six months maximum and then transfer them to social structures, where you can leave at any time.” He characterized her as “obsessive” regarding her tendency to ask for money, but attributed it to her illness: “She was obsessive about this, but that’s not the reason she wasn’t getting money, the reason is clearly her illness. When she didn’t get money, she would threaten us, but all these are symptoms of the disorder… She also has persecution mania. I’m not a specialist to say, I’m also waiting now to see the evaluation they’ll do at the psychiatric hospital.”
The timeline
The 56-year-old allegedly placed incendiary devices sequentially in her aunt’s car on January 17 in Metamorfosi, in a family friend’s car on January 23 in Erythraia, and in her former neighbor’s car on January 29 in Kifisia. All three victims allegedly, based on their testimonies, had refused something to the 56-year-old. The yoga teacher was arrested, remanded in custody, and transferred to the psychiatric hospital of Korydallos prison.
In the case of the second explosion in Nea Erythraia, serious injury occurred when the vehicle owner tried to extinguish the fire. The specific individual, who was seriously injured, suffered extensive burns and was transferred to “G. Gennimatas” hospital for treatment – he was a family friend. Regarding the third and final explosion of the former neighbor’s car on January 29 in Kifisia, it allegedly occurred because the woman reportedly refused to lend her money and provide her accommodation.
The aunt of the 56-year-old yoga teacher was the first victim in the Metamorfosi explosion. The woman and her children experienced terror on January 17 when an incendiary device exploded under her car. Notably, according to reports, the yoga teacher had escaped from the garage where her aunt’s car was parked. According to the latter, the incident occurred because she refused to lend her money.
