The severe weather struck the Ionian Islands with particular intensity, causing significant problems. A tornado hit a village in Corfu, leaving behind extensive damage, while on Kefalonia heavy rainfall caused flooding. According to corfunews, the tornado struck Afionas, in the northwestern part of Corfu.

Homes in the area suffered serious damage from the tornado’s passage, with at least three roofs torn off by the powerful winds, while a municipal kiosk was also destroyed.

The gale-force winds created extensive problems in both the northern and southern parts of the island. Tree branches fell on the roadway, hampering traffic and making immediate intervention by the Fire Service necessary for their removal.

At the same time, heavy rainfall hit Kefalonia, resulting in flooding in various areas of the island. Authorities are closely monitoring the weather system’s development, as the severe conditions are expected to continue.
Civil Protection and Fire Service remained on high alert throughout the night and will continue to do so, as the severe weather is expected to affect the country over the next two days, with intense weather phenomena in several regions.
