The 55-year-old Greek citizen of Muslim origin who was arrested in Komotini following a warrant from German prosecuting authorities for sabotage of a German Navy corvette was completely off the radar of law enforcement services. Naim N., according to journalistic sources from parapolitika.gr, had never drawn the attention of prosecuting authorities for any kind of violation. He is believed to have worked occasionally at the shipyard where the corvette was built for the German Navy. Family members questioned by police expressed complete shock at the 55-year-old’s arrest, describing him as a man who had never given any cause for concern through his behavior.
However, the fact that 19 bank books and USB sticks were found in his possession has concerned authorities. His connections with suspicious individuals and phone conversations have come under scrutiny as authorities search for information that will lead to the identity of the person who allegedly gave him orders to sabotage the German corvette together with a Romanian national. According to journalistic sources, two German police officers were present during the raid on his house in a village in Rhodope, while searches were also conducted at a house in Kavala to locate another individual, but without results. German authorities have already been informed about the findings from the police investigation through Eurojust, the organization that has undertaken coordination of investigations in Germany, Greece, and Romania.
