The Fire Service has accepted the request from the Trikala Labor Center to appoint a new expert for the investigation into the Violanta factory in Trikala, where a deadly explosion killed five female workers.
“Violanta”: New expert arrives from Athens
According to statements by General Secretary Georgios Liatifis on Radio Club 97.6, the expert is expected to officially begin work on Thursday, February 5th. The specialist will travel from Athens and possesses specialized knowledge in the field. Trikalaola notes that this development follows actions by the Labor Center aimed at investigating the circumstances and fully clarifying the case details.
Searching for the propane leak source
Investigations had been temporarily suspended due to the risk of re-ignition, as the propane leak is estimated to have lasted at least four to five months. Until the propane load is reduced, firefighters continue to spray water throughout the factory premises.
Files, oversights and underground installations
Meanwhile, authorities are examining five files of approximately 1,000 pages each, seized from the Development Directorate of the Trikala Regional Unit. The material includes operating licenses, fire safety certificates, Labor Inspection reports and evidence of health violations. According to initial findings, the 400-square-meter basement and two external propane tanks were not included in either the fire safety study or urban planning blueprints. Authorities are investigating whether inspections, controls and sanctions took place, as well as whether the piping specifications, which appear to have exceeded permitted lengths, were checked in time.
