A father and son were sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for beating a municipal employee at the cemetery in Evosmos, Thessaloniki, 10 days ago during the exhumation procedure of a woman’s remains – the wife of the first and mother of the second defendant. According to APE-MPE, the Thessaloniki Single-Member Misdemeanor Court found both the 48-year-old and his 30-year-old son guilty of the crime of dangerous bodily harm.
For the father, immediate execution of the sentence was decided, as the conditions for suspension or conversion were not met, while for the son the sentence was suspended for 3 years.
A colleague of the 63-year-old victim testified that the two defendants disagreed with the method of exhumation of the woman, who, according to him, “lost her life in the coronavirus pandemic and we followed specific protocols.” “Both of them hit him, they threw him into the grave – he was covered in blood,” the same witness added in his testimony.
What the assault victim testified
The assault victim reported that he received punches to the head, face and body, while he went to a hospital for first aid. “I was lucky they didn’t hit me with the shovel that one of the two was holding. The doctors gave me 14 days sick leave and I still face problems,” the 63-year-old emphasized.
It should be noted that the two defendants did not appear in court nor were they represented by a lawyer.
