The National Meteorological Service has updated its Emergency Severe Weather Forecast Bulletin, downgrading the warning for severe weather from red to orange, according to the latest forecast data. Despite the relative subsidence, the phenomena remain intense in several regions of the country. According to the bulletin, locally strong rains and thunderstorms are expected in the Eastern Aegean and Dodecanese islands until Monday noon, while in Crete, mainly in the western and southern parts, the phenomena will persist until the early morning hours of the same day. Temporarily intense weather phenomena are also forecast for southern Evia and the northern Cyclades islands, as well as in Attica until late Sunday night.
Snowfall even at low altitudes
At the same time, the severe weather is accompanied by locally heavy snowfall in the mountainous and semi-mountainous areas of eastern Macedonia and Thrace. Special attention is required as snow is expected to occur even in low-altitude areas of Thrace, at least until Monday noon. Citizens are urged to monitor announcements from the National Meteorological Service and take necessary protective measures, as the intense phenomena, although downgraded, continue to pose risks.
