The extreme weather continues to sweep across Greece, causing serious problems in mainland and island areas. Heavy rains, storms and snowfall are hitting Northern Greece, with areas like Kozani, Grevena, Kastoria and Florina covered in snow. Special tires or anti-slip chains are required on road networks at several points. In Serres, snow plows and Fire Department vehicles rescued about 15 people who were trapped on the road to Lailia, while the ski center closed early for safety reasons. In Xanthi, landslides and mobility problems were recorded.
Extreme weather: Flooding in Agiokampos
In Larissa and Agiokampos, flooded areas and overflowing torrents caused significant damage, while in Lemnos and Santorini roads turned into rivers. In Samos, extensive flooding and landslides hamper traffic, with serious damage to the road network and houses facing water intrusion. Authorities remain on high alert for new waves of phenomena.

The coastal areas of Larissa have been at the mercy of extreme weather since dawn, with the magnitude of destruction captured dramatically in drone footage from Orange Press Agency. The epicenter of the storm is located in the Agiokampos area and the Municipality of Agia, where nature’s fury has erased the boundaries between land and water. As clearly shown in the aerial footage, the road and sea have become “one.” The foaming waves, enhanced by stormy winds, have mounted the coastline, turning the pavement into an extension of the Aegean Sea.
Mud, debris and flooded homes
The situation is dramatic, as the overflow of torrents combined with the force of the sea has covered the area with tons of mud, wood and debris. The water did not stop at the road, but rushed into ground floor houses and shops, causing extensive material damage. In the footage, heavy vehicles from the Thessaly Region and the Municipality of Agia can be seen battling through the mud to open passages in the road network, while Police have proceeded to mark dangerous points, appealing to residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Beyond the residential area, the destruction has also hit the agricultural sector, with large areas of crops in the Municipality of Agia turned into lakes.
Weather warning for Attica region
Meteorologist Yannis Kallianos emphasizes that periods of sunshine do not mean the end of extreme weather. As he points out, from afternoon until late evening, a new cycle of rainfall is expected in Attica, with intermittent severe storms. Particular emphasis is placed on the need for caution when traveling, as phenomena may occur locally with intensity.
Extended weather system with continued snowfall
Meteorologist Giorgos Tsatrafyllias emphasizes that the extreme weather will continue for at least another 24 hours, with large amounts of rainfall already recorded in Thessaly, Peloponnese, Central Macedonia, Central Greece and Western Attica.
Meanwhile, meteorologist Sakis Arnaoutoglou warns of a prolonged winter episode in northern Evros, with a sharp drop in temperature, snowfall even within cities and increased risk of frost and road network problems.
