The state mechanism is on high alert due to severe weather with intense phenomena expected to peak on Sunday. The Risk Assessment Committee was convened by General Secretary of Civil Protection, Nikos Papaeustathiou, in the presence of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Minister Yannis Kefalogiannis, regarding weather phenomena that will affect the country with heavy rains, thunderstorms, possible local hailstorms, strong winds and snowfall.
Severe weather: Risk assessment committee meeting
a. Tomorrow Sunday, particularly intense phenomena will occur in the Peloponnese, Thessaly (mainly in the regional units of Larissa, Magnesia, including the Sporades) as well as in the regional units of Pieria, Imathia and Chalkidiki.
b. Strong phenomena will occur in Crete, the Ionian islands (mainly in Lefkada, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Zakynthos), Epirus, western Central Greece, central Macedonia, eastern Central Greece (including Attica) and Evia.
c. The day after tomorrow Monday, strong phenomena will occur in the Eastern Aegean and until the morning hours strong rains and thunderstorms in the Dodecanese and Crete.
The National Coordinating Center for Operations and Crisis Management (E.S.K.E.DI.K.) has already communicated with local and regional authorities, as well as with all involved agencies regarding the development of weather phenomena in order to ensure corresponding operational readiness and response to their consequences.
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection, following the Emergency Bulletin of Dangerous Weather Phenomena (EDEΚΦ) issued by the National Meteorological Service (E.M.Y) and the Risk Assessment Committee meeting, placed under mobilization status (Red Code):
• The Peloponnese Region
• The Thessaly Region (including the Sporades)
• The Regional Units of Achaia and Ilia of the Western Greece Region
• The Regional Units of Pieria, Imathia and Chalkidiki of the Central Macedonia Region
In this context, Municipalities and Regions are called to immediately convene the Local Operational Coordinating Bodies of Civil Protection (T.E.S.O.P.P) and the Regional Operational Coordinating Bodies of Civil Protection (P.E.S.O.P.P).
It is noted that in areas where there is a risk of landslides during severe weather phenomena and in locations where they have occurred in the past, citizens are advised to be particularly careful and avoid travel.
