A new wave of severe weather is at our doorstep, with meteorologists sounding the alarm for dramatic weather changes, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms. In a social media post, George Tsatrafyllias spoke of a “severe storm” that will begin Saturday evening from the west with powerful thunderstorms, gale-force winds, snow and hailstorms. The meteorologist noted that temperatures will drop slightly.

⚠️Significant deterioration will occur from Saturday night, starting from the west, with strong thunderstorms, gale-force winds, snow and hailstorms. Temperature will drop slightly.
On Sunday the severe weather will have nationwide impact:
📍Heavy snow will fall in the semi-mountainous areas of central and northern Greece.
📍Persistent rain and thunderstorms in western regions, Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly, Crete, Cyclades, and the eastern Aegean.
📍Strong thunderstorms will hit Attica in the early morning hours of Sunday.
📍Gale-force and dangerous cyclonic winds will blow in island and coastal areas.
✅On Monday the severe weather will be limited to the eastern island regions and will gradually weaken.

Weather: Wind gusts exceeded 110 km/h
Strengthened westerly winds are blowing today, Friday (30/1), both in most island areas and mainland regions, mainly in central and southern Greece. The map shows the distribution of maximum gusts up to 17:20, according to the automatic weather station network of meteo.gr / National Observatory of Athens, as well as the 8 stations with the strongest gusts. As shown, the strongest gust was recorded at Paximada Karystos at 111 kilometers/hour.

Saturday weather according to EMY
In western regions, clouds will be temporarily increased with local rain and until morning hours in the Ionian, western Central Greece and western Peloponnese, isolated thunderstorms. From late evening the phenomena will intensify. In the rest of the country, clouds will be temporarily increased with local rain and mainly in the Aegean islands until noon, sporadic thunderstorms, but from late afternoon in most areas the phenomena will stop. Temporary snowfall will occur in the central and northern mountains. Winds will blow in the south westerly southwestern 4 to 6, in the north easterly northeastern 3 to 5 and from evening in the Ionian southeastern 6 Beaufort. Temperature will not show significant change. In the north it will reach 12 to 13 and locally 14 degrees, in the Ionian and other mainland areas 15 to 17 degrees, in the southern Aegean 18 to 19, locally in the Dodecanese 20 degrees Celsius.
MACEDONIA, THRACE
- Weather: Clouds temporarily increased with local rain. Isolated thunderstorms may develop in Halkidiki until noon. Light snowfall will occur in mountainous areas.
- Winds: Easterly 4 to 5, from evening in eastern areas up to 6 Beaufort and temporarily until noon in western areas northwestern 3 to 4 Beaufort.
- Temperature: From 04 to 13 and locally 14 degrees Celsius. In western Macedonia 3 to 4 degrees lower.
IONIAN ISLANDS, EPIRUS, WESTERN CENTRAL GREECE, WESTERN PELOPONNESE
- Weather: Few clouds temporarily increased with local rain and isolated thunderstorms until noon. Phenomena will gradually weaken, but from late evening will intensify and during the night rain and sporadic thunderstorms will develop, possibly locally intense. Temporary snowfall will occur in mountainous areas of Epirus.
- Winds: Western northwestern 4 to 5, in the south up to 6 Beaufort turning from evening to southeastern with the same intensity.
- Temperature: From 06 to 15 to 17 and in the interior of Epirus from -1 to 10 to 11 degrees Celsius.
THESSALY, EASTERN CENTRAL GREECE, EVIA, EASTERN PELOPONNESE
- Weather: Few clouds temporarily increased with local rain and morning hours isolated thunderstorms mainly in northern areas.
- Winds: Western directions 3 to 5 and in the south up to 6 Beaufort with gradual weakening. From noon in northern areas will turn to easterly 3 to 5 Beaufort.
- Temperature: From 06 to 16 to 17 degrees Celsius. In northern areas 2 to 3 degrees lower.
CYCLADES, CRETE
- Weather: Few clouds temporarily increased in early morning hours, when local rain and sporadic thunderstorms will develop.
- Winds: Southwestern 4 to 6 Beaufort with gradual weakening from evening.
- Temperature: From 10 to 18 and in Crete up to 18 to 19 degrees Celsius.
EASTERN AEGEAN ISLANDS – DODECANESE
- Weather: Clouds temporarily increased with local rain and sporadic thunderstorms. From late afternoon phenomena will gradually stop.
- Winds: Southwestern 4 to 6 and in northern areas northeastern 3 to 5 Beaufort.
- Temperature: From 13 to 18 to 19 degrees and locally in Dodecanese up to 20 degrees Celsius. In northern areas 2 to 3 degrees lower.
ATTICA
- Weather: Clouds with local rain and possibly isolated thunderstorms in morning hours. Gradually almost clear with few clouds, locally and intermittently increased.
- Winds: Northwestern 3 to 4 Beaufort and from evening northeastern with the same intensity.
- Temperature: From 09 to 17 degrees Celsius.
THESSALONIKI
- Weather: Clouds temporarily increased with local rain.
- Winds: Northwestern 3 to 4 Beaufort and from afternoon easterly with the same intensity.
- Temperature: From 06 to 12 to 13 degrees Celsius.
