Shock and questions arise following the death of a seven-day-old infant in Kallithea in the early hours of Tuesday. The newborn child of a Romanian couple was rushed unconscious to Agia Sophia Children’s Hospital, where doctors made superhuman efforts to revive the baby, but without success. According to information, doctors attempted resuscitation for a period lasting 40 minutes to an hour, however the infant died. As stated by POEDIN president Michalis Giannakos, the child was not suffering from flu, as the relevant test was negative. The parents, speaking at the hospital, reportedly said they fed the child around 3 AM and when they checked again at 6 AM, they found the baby dead.

Infant death: The scenarios and forensic examination
The same sources report that there are no signs of trauma or abuse on the infant’s body. According to information, the baby was premature and faced a cardiac problem, an element being seriously examined by authorities. The forensic examination of the body will play a decisive role in determining the exact cause of death. Notably, the parents, in a state of confusion, initially took the child to a veterinary clinic on Syngrou Avenue, from where EKAB emergency services were notified, which collected the infant and transferred it to Agia Sophia Children’s Hospital.
