Local authorities in Thessaloniki are facing an unprecedented case that may prove to be unique nationwide. A 45-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of two women, while his involvement in other “mysterious disappearances” of women is being investigated, as a large number of women’s clothing was found in his house. The skeletal remains discovered on the 4th floor of the building point to a specific woman whose disappearance was reported in the summer of 2025. The body of a second woman, whose disappearance was reported in February 2024, remains missing. However, evidence identifying her has been found.
Regarding the macabre discovery, as parapolitika.gr had written since late yesterday afternoon, alarm bells rang in the Greek Police. However, this alarm apparently reached only a limited number of officers, as some failed to inform their superiors, resulting in high-ranking officials in the co-capital being unaware of the sensational case for quite some time.
Regarding the substance of the case, police investigating the two disappearances identified a common denominator: the 45-year-old drug addict. The women’s traces led to his house, which police had been monitoring for some time. Earlier this afternoon, it was decided to search the house.
The macabre discovery and the trick to cover up the odors
According to journalistic information from parapolitika.gr, the killer, after murdering the young woman in his house’s basement, according to his statement, moved her to the 4th floor. There, despite being a drug addict, he covered her with lime and possibly some liquid to reduce the strong smell of the lifeless body. On top of her, according to the same information, he threw carpets as an additional safety measure.
A Thessaloniki coroner was called to the scene, who together with officials from the Northern Greece Organized Crime Unit, investigated the area. Subsequently, however, according to the same information, searches also followed in the basement apartment where the 45-year-old drug addict lived. There, beyond an exceptionally large number of women’s clothes, blood stains and smell from cadaverous fluids were detected.
Thessaloniki: What the 45-year-old stated in his testimony
In his statement, the 45-year-old claimed that the woman, whose disappearance was reported in February 2024, while they were using drugs in October of the same year, she started talking and shouting on the phone. Having used drugs, the 45-year-old along with his friend became annoyed, blocked her nose and mouth, resulting in killing her. This woman, according to the same testimony, was thrown in a garbage bin.
Regarding the second missing woman, until recently a woman, in the second week of July 2025 they used drugs together in his basement and suddenly she died from an overdose. He moved her to the 4th floor with his friend and tried to cover the odors from the cadaverous fluids.
However, police have an additional finding, besides the large number of women’s clothes: blood stains that do not match the dates mentioned by the 45-year-old now accused of two homicides. He and his friend, also a drug user, have been arrested and will be brought before the Thessaloniki Prosecutor today. The police work, however, seems to be just beginning, and with the help of Criminal Laboratories, they are trying to understand how many women’s bodies may have passed through the basement of horrors in Menemeni, Thessaloniki.
