The local community of Trikala remains shocked after the deadly fire at the Biolanta factory, which cost the life of 42-year-old Vasiliki Skampardoni. A mother of two young children, aged just 3 and 5, Vaso, as everyone in her village called her, left behind a family plunged into mourning. Her husband, speaking through tears on Star television, described his wife as “a worthy spouse and mother” and “a fighter in life.” With a trembling voice, he made it clear that right now he doesn’t want to talk about responsibilities, but only about the person he lost. “The women went in vain, they went for their daily wage and it turned out to be a wage of terror,” he said, causing chills of emotion.

Biolanta explosion: “The lights will go out and the children will search for their mothers”
The phrase that broke even the most composed was the one with which he described the unbearable void left behind by the tragedy. “The lights will go out and the children will search to find their mothers. They will never call out ‘mama’ again,” he said crying, while appealing that these be the last women lost in this way. Referring to their two children, he spoke of the “two little souls” his wife left him and promised he would stand by them, being both mother and father. “If I could, I would want to have left myself and for my wife to live,” he said, describing his personal drama. Meanwhile, the president of Filyra village, Ilias Koukoutselos, revealed that both the 42-year-old and the owner of the biscuit factory come from the same village. As he mentioned, Vaso worked nights at the factory to be close to her children during the day, while in the past she had closed her hair salon to work at “Biolanta.” A life choice that ended in tragedy.
