Greek society has been shocked since yesterday morning (26/01), when news broke of the explosion at the «Violanta» factory in Trikala, which claimed the lives of 5 women. The fire broke out in the early hours of Monday (26/01), followed by a deafening explosion at the Violanta facility buildings. The explosion was felt even in the city of Trikala and in surrounding villages, where residents reported that windows rattled, neighboring panels were blown open by the blast wave, part of the roof collapsed, and the building was immediately engulfed in flames.

It’s worth noting that shortly before the deadly explosion at the Violanta factory, the company’s employees were celebrating at the New Year’s cake cutting ceremony. Due to the event, the manager had reduced the number of workers on the night shift from 30 to 12. Regarding the 5 women who lost their lives, ERT1 published photographs from the Violanta factory event on Sunday evening (25/01).
The faces of the tragedy
The first confirmed victim was 42-year-old Vasiliki Skambardoni from Gardiki Trikala. A mother of two children and well-known in the local community, she previously owned a hair salon in the area before starting work at this facility. The second victim is 45-year-old Elena Katsarou, who came from the village of Glinos and was married. The third deceased worker is Stavroula Boukovala from Karditsa. The fourth deceased worker is Anastasia Nasiou, while the 5th worker found dead is Agapi Bounova.
