The country is entering a trajectory of successive weather fronts this week, as three waves of severe weather are expected to affect large parts of the territory through the weekend, bringing rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.

According to meteorologists, the first wave is already underway and is affecting eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean, the Dodecanese and Crete. A new weather deterioration is expected on Wednesday through Thursday, while a third wave of severe weather is forecast for the weekend.
The largest amounts of rainfall are expected in western Greece, the Aegean and the mountainous areas of mainland Greece, while winds will blow stormy at times, mainly from southern directions. Temperatures will remain at levels slightly higher than normal for the season, with snowfall limited to mountainous areas.
In Attica, the weather will remain relatively mild, with local showers at intervals.
Marousakis: Waves of severe weather with storms but also breaks
The country is entering a rhythm of continuous severe weather in the coming days, with low-pressure systems succeeding one another, according to Open meteorologist Klearchos Marousakis. As he noted, “we are in a flow of continuous severe weather, continuous low-pressure systems from the area of central Europe and Italy.” “We are getting low-pressure systems that bring heavy rainfall, storms, and strong southerly winds in the Ionian and Aegean, and it appears we will continue this way at least until the middle of next week,” he noted.
Today Tuesday, the strong weather front is limited to the eastern – southeastern Aegean and the northeastern parts of the country. Until noon, areas such as Macedonia, Thrace, the northern Aegean and the eastern-southeastern Aegean will receive rain and even thunderstorms, while in the rest of the country the weather improves significantly with long periods of sunshine.
The low-pressure system is moving away and the large pressure difference is decreasing, resulting in winds losing their intensity. In the Aegean they will approach 6 to 7 Beaufort, while in the Ionian they will blow strong.
Temperatures remain good for the season. The mercury will reach up to 16 degrees Celsius at noon, while in the west and north it will range from 12 to 15 degrees. The sensation of cold and humidity will be more intense in the morning hours.
In Attica, the day begins with clouds and a few local showers in the southern parts of the region are not excluded, however the weather will improve relatively quickly with long periods of sunshine. Winds will blow with locally strong intensities and the temperature will approach 15 degrees Celsius.
In Thessaloniki, the phenomena are more intense, with rain and possible thunderstorms mainly towards the eastern parts. From the afternoon the weather will begin to improve, while the mercury will not exceed 13 degrees Celsius.
For the coming days, Mr. Marousakis mentioned that on Wednesday, although the day will start with mild weather conditions for most geographical regions, around noon a new wave of severe weather will approach us from Italy. “The weather will begin to gradually deteriorate, first in the western – northwestern country and, as we go towards evening, in other geographical regions as well,” he explained.
The main characteristics of the new severe weather will again be heavy rainfall, thunderstorms in coastal and maritime areas, snow in mountains of the mainland, and very strong southerly winds, which in the Ionian and Aegean may reach storm levels.
The severe weather will pass through Thursday, Friday is expected to see a temporary improvement, while within Saturday a new wave of severe weather arrives with considerable rain, especially on Sunday. There is again a risk of flooding episodes.
As the meteorologist noted, “we will continue this way until early next week and we’ll see when the weather stabilizes,” as forecast data shows successive waves of severe weather from central Europe towards the country. The rainfall will be normal for the season, however caution is required.
Finally, he clarified that no significant cold appears to be coming, at least at low altitudes, in the coming days.
