The weather scenario is deteriorating once again, as after the severe weather that hit various regions of Greece earlier this week, conditions will worsen from tomorrow, Monday (26/01), starting from the west with rain and thunderstorms that will be locally intense, while strong southerly winds will blow in the Aegean Sea. The Hellenic National Meteorological Service has issued an emergency weather deterioration bulletin, announcing an orange warning.
New storm wave: Southern Athens suburbs in focus
According to available forecast data from the National Observatory of Athens / Meteo.gr, on Monday 26/01 heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in western areas, gradually extending to Eastern Central Greece, Southern and Eastern Peloponnese, Evia, Central and Eastern mainland Greece, from late morning hours in Crete, in the Cyclades from midday in the Sporades, in the North and East Aegean islands and the Dodecanese.
The phenomena will be locally intense and may be accompanied by hailstorms in island areas of the Southern and Eastern Aegean and possibly in areas of Northeastern Peloponnese and Southern Attica. According to the rainfall episode categorization (RPI) applied by the Meteo unit of the National Observatory of Athens, this rainfall episode is classified as Category 3 (Significant).

Emergency weather bulletin: Orange alert for 8 regions
The Hellenic National Meteorological Service issued an emergency weather bulletin on Sunday afternoon, 25/1.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for tomorrow, Monday (26-01-2026) in many regions of our country.
Strong southerly winds will blow today, Sunday (25-01-2026) in the Ionian Sea and tomorrow, Monday (26-01-2026) in the Aegean Sea.
More specifically, heavy rain and thunderstorms will occur on Monday (26-01-2026):
a. in western Greece until midday
b. in eastern Macedonia from morning and from late morning hours in central Macedonia and temporarily in Thrace
c. in the Eastern Aegean islands and Dodecanese from early afternoon
d. in Crete (mainly in western and southern parts) from late morning hours
e. in Attica from morning until midday hours

Three waves of severe weather coming from today
Three waves of severe weather will hit the country from today, Sunday (25/01), according to forecasts from the Hellenic National Meteorological Service and estimates from meteorologists Theodoros Kolydas and Sakis Arnaoutoglou, bringing rainfall, strong winds and locally intense phenomena that will affect large parts of the territory in the coming days.
More specifically, in his post about the weekly forecast, Theodoros Kolydas notes that “one system will come after another,” creating three consecutive waves of severe weather. As he mentions, there will be plenty of rain, while southerly winds will keep temperatures at levels higher than normal for the season. According to him, on Monday the phenomena may be strong mainly in western, northern and eastern Aegean areas, with increased risk of locally intense rainfall.

For his part, Sakis Arnaoutoglou emphasizes that after a brief period of sunshine, from today Sunday a new wave of severe weather will initially affect the eastern Aegean islands and then the Ionian Sea. As he notes, strong winds up to 7 Beaufort will blow in the Ionian Sea, particularly around Corfu and surrounding islands, while from Monday very strong winds will prevail throughout the country, with possible impacts on ferry services.
From tonight, winds and rain will intensify across the country. On Monday, January 26, the new storm wave will severely affect the municipalities of Kavala, Xanthi, Drama and Thasos, while phenomena are also expected in Attica, with rain and thunderstorms until midday, strong winds and temperature drop. Phenomena will be particularly intense in southern Crete and southwestern areas of the country, with temperatures moving to lower levels compared to previous days.
Today’s weather
Clouds with local rain are forecast mainly in western, northern areas, the Eastern Aegean, Cyclades and Crete. Scattered thunderstorms will begin to develop from evening in western areas. The rest of the country will have cloudy conditions.
Temperatures will range in Western Macedonia from 2 to 10 degrees, in the rest of Macedonia from 3 to 14, in Thrace from 8 to 14, in Epirus from 4 to 17 degrees, in Thessaly from 5 to 15, in Central Greece from 6 to 18 degrees, in Peloponnese from 6 to 18-19 degrees, in the Ionian Islands from 13 to 17, in North Aegean islands from 9 to 15 degrees, in other Aegean island areas from 10 to 17 degrees and in Crete from 11 to 19-20 degrees Celsius.
Winds will blow from southeastern directions in western areas 5 to 7 Beaufort, in other areas 4 to 6 and locally 7 Beaufort.
In Attica, clouds with local rain are forecast. Southerly winds 3 to 5 Beaufort. Temperature will range from 7 to 16 degrees.
In Thessaloniki, clouds with local rain. Variable light winds and 2 to 4 Beaufort in the Thermaic Gulf. Temperature will range from 7 to 14 degrees.
Monday’s weather 26-01-2026
Locally increased clouds with rain in most parts of the country. Scattered thunderstorms will initially develop in western and northern areas and gradually in other regions. The phenomena, which may be strong locally in western, northern and eastern Aegean areas, will stop in northwestern regions during evening hours. Snowfall will occur in mountainous areas of western and northern Greece.
Winds will blow in western areas from south-southeast 5 to 7 Beaufort, quickly turning to west-southwest 4 to 6 Beaufort. In eastern areas they will blow from south-southeast 5 to 7 and locally 8 Beaufort in the Aegean, turning from afternoon to southwest with slight weakening in central and northern areas.
Temperature will show a slight drop in maximum values except in the eastern Aegean. In the Ionian and mainland areas it will reach 15 to 17 degrees, while in northwestern areas it will not exceed 12 to 13 degrees and in the rest of the country it will reach 18 to 19 degrees Celsius.
Tuesday’s weather 27-01-2026
In eastern mainland areas, the eastern Aegean, Cyclades and Crete, increased clouds with rain and scattered thunderstorms. In the rest of the country, few clouds occasionally increasing with few scattered showers. Light snowfall will occur in mountainous areas of mainland Greece.
Winds will blow in western areas from northwest 4 to 6 Beaufort and in eastern areas from southerly directions 4 to 6 and locally in southern areas temporarily 7 Beaufort, gradually turning after midday to west-northwest 4 to 6 Beaufort.
Temperature will show a slight drop in eastern areas.
Wednesday’s weather 28-01-2026
In Eastern Aegean islands and Dodecanese, clouds with local rain and isolated thunderstorms in Dodecanese with gradual weakening. In the rest of the country, few clouds that will gradually increase in western areas and after midday local rain will occur.
Winds will blow in western areas from southerly directions 4 to 6 Beaufort and in eastern areas west-southwest 4 to 5 Beaufort.
Temperature will show a slight rise in western areas.
Thursday’s weather 29-01-2026
Locally increased clouds with rain and scattered thunderstorms are forecast initially in western areas, quickly extending to the rest of the country. During evening hours phenomena will weaken and be limited mainly to eastern areas. Snowfall will occur in mountainous areas of western and northern Greece.
Winds will blow from south-southwest 4 to 6 Beaufort, 7 in open seas and possibly temporarily locally 8 Beaufort in the Aegean.
Temperature will show a slight rise in southern areas.
