According to the union, the strike will begin at 6:00 AM on Tuesday and will end at 6:00 AM on Thursday, during which time taxis will remain out of service throughout the Athens metropolitan area.
It should be noted that this specific mobilization was pre-announced after the end of the three-day strike that took place the previous week. SATA, in its announcement, reiterates the sector’s main demands and expresses its disagreement with regulations included in the draft law for taxis.
At the same time, SATA calls on professional drivers to participate in a rally that will take place on Tuesday, January 20, at 10:00 AM, at the Peristeri Exhibition Center. There, as stated, detailed information about the draft bill under discussion will be presented, as well as the sector’s next moves.
SATA’s detailed announcement about the strike
“Colleagues, the leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport once again chooses the path of opacity, devaluation and confrontation with the taxi sector. Our demands:
Electrification – No to violent transition.
Clear framework for Taxi work – Private cars with driver.
Unfair competition – Lawlessness of multinationals.
Access for loaded taxis to Special Traffic Lanes (Bus lanes).
Taxation – End to the presumptive robbery raid.
Fundraising Bill
The Ministry of Transport does not listen, does not discuss, does not correct. It simply lies – It simply imposes
The strike mobilizations of Athens taxis are the only way of resistance against:
the devaluation of the profession,
the hastiness of legislation,
the political arrogance that considers taxi drivers as granted and silent.
The taxi does not remain silent – The taxi responds
We call on all colleagues, owners, drivers, operators, investors, and merchants to give a massive, militant, decisive “present”:
On Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at 10 AM at the Peristeri Exhibition Center.
Information about the draft law
There will be presented:
the real points of the leaked draft bill,
its impact on the sector,
the next militant moves.
It’s not time for complacency.
It’s not time for delusions.
It’s time for unity, presence and voice.
Those who think they can decide about taxis behind closed doors will find us in front of them.
The struggle is everyone’s business
No one absent
No one a spectator.”
