A new video created using artificial intelligence brings to the forefront the voice and message of Saint Anthony, the man regarded as the father of monasticism and a symbol of spiritual struggle and inner freedom.
In the video, Saint Anthony “narrates” his life journey from the prosperous Egypt of the 3rd century to the absolute solitude of the desert. Born in 251 AD into a family of wealth, land, and social security, he could have lived a comfortable life without deprivation. As heard in the video, however, a single phrase from the Gospel that he heard at a young age changed everything: “If you want to be perfect, give up everything.”
His decision did not remain theoretical. Anthony sold his possessions, distributed the money to the poor, settled his family obligations, and withdrew into the desert. Not out of hatred for the world, but out of the need to discover who he was without the supports of material wealth and social recognition.
Life in the desert, as described in the video, was far from idyllic. Loneliness, fear, inner struggles, and harsh temptations marked his ascetic path. He speaks of the “war of thoughts,” of moments of falling, but also of his perseverance in rising again—through fasting, prayer, and faith.
Through this long journey of asceticism, Saint Anthony reached a profound conclusion: the greatest battle is not against evil outside the human being, but against ego and fear within. When he finally found inner peace, people began to seek him out—not for his own sake, but for the hope that, as emphasized in the video, God offers.
Saint Anthony lived for 105 years, nearly 90 of them in the desert. The message conveyed through this modern digital narrative remains timeless: a person is not born free—freedom is achieved. And that freedom passes through struggle, silence, and an encounter with Christ.
