Turkey’s reaction to the frigate “Kimon” was expected as it entered Greek waters for the first time, prompting the neighboring country to carry out violations and breaches in the Aegean. Specifically, Turkey deployed two ATR-72 naval cooperation and surveillance aircraft that conducted three violations of the Athens FIR and seven violations of national airspace in the central and southeastern Aegean.
The fact that Greece’s first Belharra frigate is now here and sends a strong message of deterrence and naval power is something that Turkish forces are apparently dealing with irritation. The Turkish aircraft were identified by Greek air forces, as emphasized by the General Staff of National Defense.
In the video published earlier by the Hellenic Navy, the journey of “Kimon” to our country is shown through difficult weather conditions, while the frigate “Aegean” – participating in Operation “IRINI” in the eastern Mediterranean – “saluted” Greece’s first Belharra.
