Halkidiki: What does the husband of the policewoman who died two months after being hit by a truck says

The 46-year-old police officer who was struck by a truck in April in Halkidiki has succumbed to her injuries after fighting for her life for two months. Her husband, speaking for the first time to Live News, remains devastated.

Every day he was by his wife’s side, praying for a miracle. Now he’s trying to pick up the pieces and be a rock for their 4 children.

“She was a woman full of energy, an admirable police officer, perfect in everything. We miss her as a family. We were a family of six and now she’s gone. We lost the most precious thing we had,” declared the husband of the unfortunate 46-year-old woman speaking on the show, and then added: “She left as a hero. If you had been here and seen what happened today, it was something heartbreaking. I wish nothing had happened to her and this thing hadn’t occurred.”

The chronology of the tragic accident

The countdown to the 46-year-old police officer’s life began in the early hours of April 5th. During a patrol with a colleague, she intervened to separate a 33-year-old and a 26-year-old at the 41st kilometer of the provincial road from Nea Moudania to Sarti in Halkidiki.

Under unknown circumstances, both the 46-year-old police officer and the 33-year-old were struck by a truck driven by a 62-year-old man, resulting in the police officer being seriously injured and the 33-year-old losing his life on the spot.

The mother of multiple children underwent a series of surgeries and from the first moment was hospitalized intubated in the ICU. It should be noted that her death was announced by the attending physicians the day before yesterday morning.

“Maria Zafeiri, a valuable police officer and mother of four children, passed away at the age of 46. Yet another victim of duty in the ranks of the Greek police. Together with the Hellenic Police, I also participate in the mourning and sorrow of her family. The State will stand by the children and husband of the wrongfully killed police officer,” wrote Minister of Citizen Protection Michalis Chrysochoidis.

Hopes for her salvation were raised after the first interventions, but unfortunately the 46-year-old didn’t make it.
