Police authorities have arrested the fourth person involved in the horrific rape case of a 14-year-old girl in Piraeus. It should be noted that three Roma minors, aged 16, 17, and 18, have already been arrested in connection with this case that has shocked the entire nation. The fourth arrestee is 20 years old and is believed to have been present at the house during the gang rape. According to reports, the 20-year-old voluntarily surrendered to police authorities and was arrested.
According to Hellenic Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou, speaking to ERTNews about the case: “Two of those arrested have already been brought before the competent prosecutor and were given time to present their defense, while the other two are being brought before authorities at this time.” She also emphasized the need for caution in public discourse surrounding such cases, noting: “When we’re talking about a 14-year-old child, we can only speak of rape. Regardless of the circumstances under which the act occurred.”
Timeline of the Piraeus rape case
According to the preliminary investigation file, the child was allegedly lured by one of the perpetrators to a residence, where three of the four proceeded with the sexual abuse. The fourth alleged perpetrator is not charged with rape, as current evidence suggests he did not participate in the act.
The girl was found several hours later in an outdoor area in Piraeus by DIAS police unit officers, transferred to a police station and subsequently to the Minor Protection Subdivision, where the incident was reported.
It should be recalled that the 14-year-old girl fell victim to gang rape in the Piraeus area by four men on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
According to information, the girl met one of them, whom she had encountered through an online platform. He led her to a house where three others arrived and gang-raped her. After the rape, the girl left the house and was wandering around Piraeus.
When her parents realized she hadn’t returned home, they began searching for her and notified the police. DIAS unit officers found her wandering and took her to the hospital for initial care, while the girl reported the incident and gave her statement.
From the investigation, two of the perpetrators were initially arrested – one adult and one minor – while the third, born in 2009, voluntarily appeared at the Minors Department late Thursday afternoon (July 3).
