A 16-year-old is charged with premeditated murder as the perpetrator of the beating of a 17-year-old from Serres that resulted in his tragic death. The 16-year-old is being held at the Serres Crime Investigation and Prosecution Sub-Directorate and is expected to be brought before the Serres Court Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday morning (07/01). The minor defendant confessed to his involvement in the incident that cost the 17-year-old’s life, according to relevant sources. The trigger for the fight between the two minors appears to have been a message that the victim had sent to a girl who is connected to the self-confessed perpetrator.
Death of 17-year-old in Serres: Timeline of the incident
Everything happened yesterday after 9:30 PM on Monday (05/01) in the city of Serres – at that time the 17-year-old was with his friends outside a gambling establishment. At some point, the 16-year-old passed by the spot accompanied by a friend, and apparently confronted the victim. According to testimonies collected by police, the 16-year-old struck the 17-year-old in the face with his hands and then left. The police preliminary investigation does not indicate participation by his friend in the incident.
Immediately after receiving the blows, the victim asked his friends to accompany him home as he was not feeling well. Upon reaching the apartment building where he lived, the minor instead of going up to his apartment went down the stairs to an outdoor underground area of the building. He was found at this location this morning, unconscious, by his two siblings, at the very time his father was at the police station to report the disappearance of his 17-year-old son.
The ambulance service was notified and transferred him to Serres Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death, while a forensic investigation was ordered.
After police were informed, investigations began and testimonies were collected that led to the apprehension of the 16-year-old – initially as a suspect. His confession regarding involvement in the incident resulted in his detention-arrest, and a case file for premeditated murder is being prepared against him, with which he is expected to be brought before the competent prosecutor. A case file for neglect of minor supervision is also being prepared against his mother.

Police sources report that the 16-year-old comes from a difficult family environment, while last summer he had been arrested for possession of a small amount of cannabis. At that time, a social investigation had been ordered by the competent judicial authority regarding the 16-year-old’s living conditions. A reformative measure was also imposed on him – specifically, his care was temporarily assigned to the juvenile probation and support department of the competent prosecutor’s office.
