Breathalyzer tests are being conducted intensively by traffic police in Athens throughout the holiday period, with the majority of drivers showing compliance. From 06:00 on January 1st to 06:00 on January 2nd, 5,531 breathalyzer tests were conducted on drivers. Of these, 17 were found to be driving above the legal limit. Specifically:
• 7 drivers with levels above 0.25 mg per liter of exhaled air
• 5 drivers with levels of 0.41 mg
• 5 drivers at the limit concerning motorcycles
Most drivers complied with alcohol limits
It should be noted that from 06:00 on December 31st to 06:00 on New Year’s Day, a total of 6,129 breathalyzer tests had been conducted, with 62 drivers found above the legal limits. The data shows that most drivers complied with alcohol limits, although controls remain strict for road safety.
