New Year’s Eve: Which areas will be affected by traffic restrictions
The Greek Police announced the gradual suspension of traffic on central arteries of the Municipality of Athens. The New Year’s Eve traffic restrictions concern specific road sections around the venues hosting the festive celebrations. On Queen Sofia Avenue, the closure will affect the section between Sekeri and University streets. Meanwhile, on Alexandra Avenue, the section from Moustoxydi Street to Patission will close, including perpendicular roads up to the first parallel street towards Patission direction.
Central roads that will close completely
Some of the capital’s most central road arteries will close along their entire length. Specifically, Amalias Avenue will be completely blocked, as will Mavrommateon Street. Syntagma Square, where the main festive celebration program will take place, will also be completely closed to traffic. Additionally, Syngrou Avenue will close in the section between Amalias Avenue and Dionysios Areopagitou. Stadiou Street will be blocked from America Street to King George I Avenue, along with perpendicular streets up to the first parallel. Finally, Filellion Street will close along its entire length, including perpendicular roads.
Traffic police recommendations for avoiding problems
The Greek Police appeals to drivers to avoid passing through the affected areas during the New Year’s Eve traffic restrictions. For better citizen service and to avoid additional traffic problems, planning alternative routes is recommended. Drivers are called upon to faithfully follow the signals and instructions of traffic controllers who will be positioned at closure points. Citizens’ cooperation is essential for the smooth conduct of festive events and the safety of all participants.
