Shock is caused by the arrest of a 37-year-old deputy police officer serving at the headquarters of the Hellenic Police, as he was arrested with 500 grams of cocaine in Rhodes. The police officer had traveled from Piraeus to the Dodecanese island, but his operation failed when colleagues from the Rhodes Security Subdirectorate proceeded with his arrest.
Police officer arrest at Rhodes port: Where he hid the drugs
The authorities’ operation began when the deputy police officer disembarked at the island’s port. Rhodes police officers proceeded to check his luggage, where they discovered the quantity of cocaine. The arrested police officer had taken special care to conceal the narcotic substances. Specifically, in his car he had constructed a special hiding compartment in the gear shift lever, trying to ensure that the transport of cocaine from Piraeus to Rhodes would remain undetected. However, the authorities’ checks at the port proved effective.
Authorities are investigating whether the police officer was acting alone or whether he was part of a broader drug trafficking network. The 37-year-old was taken to the Rhodes prosecutor and is expected to defend himself against charges related to the transportation and trafficking of narcotic substances.
