A shocking video document from the fire that broke out in an apartment in Kallithea, where two young men from Syria lost their lives, has come to light. It should be recalled that the fire broke out yesterday, Friday (26/12), shortly after 7:30 PM in a first-floor apartment of a duplex house on Agamemnon Street in Kallithea, most likely due to a gas leak from a heating unit. According to ERT, neighbors rushed to the apartment as soon as they noticed the fire, however the door was locked.
As shown in the documentary video published by ERTnews, the fire burns through the apartment and “devours” it. Flames are visible on the balcony, while thick smoke has covered the house.
Watch the documentary video:
“I saw a small flame at first, and then we saw a blue light and then the fire grew bigger,” said an eyewitness. During firefighting operations, firefighters found the two men unconscious in the bedroom, suffering from extensive burns. According to a local resident, another friend of theirs lived in the apartment, who fortunately was not in the apartment at the time.
Kallithea: Firefighters found the two men unconscious – The timeline
When the Fire Department arrived at the scene, firefighters climbed ladders to the balcony and wearing breathing apparatus, sprayed water with hoses. While extinguishing the fire, they found the two men inside the house in the bedroom unconscious and with extensive burns all over their bodies.
They were subsequently picked up by an EKAB ambulance and transported to Red Cross Hospital, where their deaths were confirmed. As ERT reports, a heater with a gas cylinder was found in the hall of the house, which was operating at the time of the fire. There was probably a gas leak and then the fire was caused, from which the cylinder did not explode.
According to the Fire Department, the fire broke out around 7:38 PM. Fifteen firefighters with 5 vehicles and a special ladder truck operated to extinguish it. A preliminary investigation into the causes of the fire is being conducted by the competent investigative department.
