After a long time, the Turkish air force returned to its tactics of provocations with violations of Greek airspace. A pair of armed Turkish F-16s violated Greek airspace between Lemnos and Lesbos, resulting in an alert being sounded in the Hellenic Air Force. Greek F-16 fighter jets immediately took off to intercept them and engaged with the Turkish fighters.
Turkish violations: Ankara’s activity over national airspace
Throughout the day, eight violations of national airspace were recorded. Two were by Turkish F-16s and the remaining six by ATR-72 maritime patrol aircraft. Turkey’s illegal activity was recorded in the Northeastern and Southeastern Aegean and according to the Hellenic National Defense General Staff, the Turkish aircraft were identified and intercepted according to international rules, following standard practice.
