Farmers are determined to continue their mobilizations, as they declared after completing their nationwide meeting in Lefkonas, Serres, with representatives from 57 blockades across the country participating.
Farmers: The government is mocking us
During the meeting, farmers expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government’s stance, rejecting the possibility of dialogue. As they characteristically stated, “the dialogue is superficial and the government is mocking us,” emphasizing that their demands remain unanswered.
By unanimous decision, participants in the nationwide meeting decided to escalate mobilizations in the coming period, strengthening blockades and taking more dynamic actions, seeking substantial solutions to problems facing the primary sector.
Rizos Maroudas: Action escalates for even more pressure on government
Rizos Maroudas, president of the Unifying Federation of Agricultural Associations of Larissa Prefecture, from the Nikaia Larissa blockade, emphasized after the farmers’ assembly in Serres: “Action is escalating for even more pressure on the government. It has the money, it gives it to business groups, but it doesn’t give it to farmers.
“Tomorrow there will be free passage due to the Tempe trial,” he added. “Second, from Friday afternoon at 2 PM onwards, we proceed uniformly to close bypass roads as well. During the weekend, where there are toll stations, we will open the barriers so people don’t pay the exorbitant tolls, and we will thus help the people, because with our struggle we are opening roads. Also, passage will be open during the holiday period until the government sits down to consider its options and end this mobilization as well as possible. The decision from Serres is clear – at this moment there are no conditions for discussion with the prime minister. No farmer will leave until final victory. The ball is in the government’s court. The sooner it understands the problem, the better for everyone,” he concluded.
